So without further adieu, here is a small file that will patch both the Heavy Gear 2.exe and the shell.dll files so that you can play without the CD. Turns out there was another check for the CD in the main exe file. Needless to say, if you started the game without the CD and just this dll, it would exit with an error and usually messed with your display resolution for some reason.
